Book One: Jeronimus Gone
Jeronimus Hespaeron is fourteen, and he’s normal, unremarkable even—except for the fact that he’s a magnet for murderous beasts. It’s been over a thousand years since the Gourge—a horde of massive, putrid, grub-like creatures—have ravaged the Wide Domain, killing all in their path. Most believed them to be just a legend, stories for the gullible…but they’re real, they’re back, and they’re drawn to Jeronimus.
Now Jeronimus and his best friend Danior must escape the merciless posse convinced Jeronimus is tainted with witchery, just like his crippled father…and an agent of the Congress seeking to exploit Jeronimus’s abilities for its own protection. The boys flee into the wilds of the Wide Domain, where they are attacked by diseased animals, befriended by an ancient Sorceress, tortured by corrupt Clerics, and taken in by a mixed-race band of wanderers. They rely on each other to survive…but the Gourge, driven to bloodlust by the greed and destruction rampant in the Domain, are on the move, and no one can stop them. No one, that is, except Jeronimus. He must awaken to his powers as a Gourge Master before the Gourge—and the Congress—ruin all.
Jeronimus Gone is the first installment in the epic tetralogy Tales of the Wide Domain. Set in a world of wise beasts and sentient forests, Jeronimus Gone will appeal to all lovers of grand, enchanting adventures.
Every day Eamon Fee’s stomach churns with fear. He’s only eleven, he’s been homeless for almost two years, his mom is not well, he doesn’t know how they’ll survive. But in the library he feels a very strange, out-of-place buzz of hope. On the eve of his twelfth birthday that buzz transforms into a wise, seven-foot-tall bird-human named Lammam , who whisks Eamon out the window high into the night sky. Eamon is, for once, free.
But another massive bird-human snatches Eamon and hisses into his ear: she is Krenga, and she is the fear and dread inside him—his Clendite. Lammam, she says, is his hope-filled, deluded Alamite—and her sworn enemy. Everyone has their own Clendite and Alamite, felt within but never seen. Lammam's appearance in physical form--an appalling blunder, Krenga says--has freed them all, a motley crowd of giant animals, trust and fear brought to life.
Krenga and the Clendite Council anoint Eamon their leader, and bestow on him the power to rule all human hearts with fear and dread. But the Alamites will not be so easily defeated, and now the battle rages, both inside Eamon and in the people around him. Eamon—with the assistance of his new friend Valeria—must choose sides: will he succumb to the powerful pull of Clendites, or will he take the leap of faith the Alamites ask of him? The very happiness of the entire world—everyone—depends on him.
